We’re into scorched earth territory with our play-testing. We have reached the point at which we start taking our game to total strangers and allow them to put their grubby paws all over it. The result is an unsurprisingly harsh light on our work. A particularly helpful play-test was had with the folks of NYC-Playtest at the Brooklyn Game Lab (which is a fantastic place you should check out). In short, everything needed work. So Jason and I went home and immediately laid out all of Complicated Board Game the Card Game and got to work tearing up a bunch of cards, scribbling over rules, and generally doing our best to destroy our current prototype. In all we cut 25 cards out, 1/4 of the game at the time, and rewrote about half of the remaining rules so the game would flow better and match its theme. The improvement is considerable. Playtime is down to a delightful 15-20 minutes and we added a whole new mechanic to the game, win conditions! If you’d like to take a look the files are as always on the site. Let us know what you think. Or if you’re in the NYC/Brooklyn area come play-test with us. We’re reliably at the NYU Game Center on Thursdays at 5pm or you can follow us on Twitter to see where else we might show up!
